A study of causes of construction accidents in repair, maintenance, minor alteration and addition (RMAA) works in Hong Kong
“Over the years, the accident rate in the construction industry has been higher than that in other industries in Hong Kong. Although the overall safety record of the construction industry in Hong Kong has slightly improved in recent years, there is an alarming increase in the number of accidents in Repair, Maintenance, Minor Alteration and Addition (“RMAA”) Works. In 2004, the number of accidents in RMAA works contributes one third of the total number of accidents in the construction industry. This paper aims to examine the characteristics of RMAA works and the causes of construction accidents in RMAA Works in Hong Kong. Corresponding recommendations are suggested at the end of the paper to tackle the safety problems in the industry. “(1)
