HK Heritage Project Newsletter, 2014/2, CLP and Hume Pipe Company
Amelia Allsop Collections and Research Manager at The Hong Kong Heritage Project has kindly sent me its latest quarterly Newsletter Past & Present (2014/No.2).
Of particular interest is Remembering CLP (China Light and Power) in which retired staff, their friends and relatives remember the company from the early days at Hok Un Power Station to CLP’s first computer in 1968.
In particular there is information about Edgar Laufer (1917-2010) who was CLP’s longest serving employee in a career spanning 42 years.
The Newsletter also contains anecdotes about the Peninsula Hotel. Including about John ‘Jock’ Inglis who arrived in Hong Kong in 1934 as General Manager for the Hume Pipe Company, an Australian firm, to build the pipeline from the Shing Mun Reservoir to Hong Kong island.
