On 27 May 1926 Sir Paul Chater died. Mr. D.G.M.Bernard, who was Chairman at the time said: ‘Sir Paul had been a Permanent Managing Director of the Company since it was formed in 1889. It was largely his foresight and business acumen in connection with property matters that brought the Company to its present state of prosperity. During his very long residence here he devoted a great deal of time and thought to the development of the Colony and acquired a knowledge of property values which was quite unrivalled.’
