The culture of bamboo scaffolding in Hong Kong

HF: Bamboo scaffolding is such a common sight in Hong Kong that residents often pay it no attention. It is in fact, a valuable part of our cultural heritage.

Bamboo, being cheap, easily available and versatile, remains widely used in construction in Hong Kong despite the increasing use of tubular steel scaffold. Even in the 21st century bamboo scaffolding is seen on many construction sites providing access and work platforms for workers. It is used in all kinds of large and small scale repair and installation work, and in temporary structures erected for particular festivals.
