Caltex Oil Terminal – Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong, employees
HF: I thought I would post a new article about employees of the Caltex Oil Terminal in Tsuen Wan.
First up is this brief entry sent by Alexandre Pinto Marques.
Alexandre Pinto Marques: My father worked for Caltex till we left HK in 1965. Our family was the first occupants of one of the duplex units.
I enjoyed my years living in Tsuen Wan. It was very different then
HF 7/21: I have been unable to email Alexandre asking for more information/images and would be grateful if he would contact me: Hugh Farmer indhhk@gmail.com

The buildings in the right foreground is called the Four Seasons Estate, which has been demolished in early 1990 for an urban redevelopment project. It was a public housing estate developed by the Hong Kong Housing Society, which is a public funded organization for providing low rent housing to the low income class in Hong Kong.
As shown in the official website of the HK Housing Society, the project was completed in 1959, thus this photo should be taken before that time as it seems that only 2 blocks instead of 4 blocks were completed.

The site has been turned from a low income class habitat to a luxurious modern private housing estate called “City Walk”, which is a land mark of Tsuen Wan.

the photo was taken in 1961 from a place called Chai Wan Kok , and the Four Seasons Estate is in the upper right of the photo, and further up you can see some oil tanks in white colour. which should be the Caltex site (it was call Texco at that time and the oil tanks were painted in black in the 1960s). The site has been redeveloped into a large modern private housing estate called the Riveria Gardens in 1985.
The Texco oil tanks site were not accessible by foot at that time, people had to take sampan to go to work, my uncle used to work as a cook there, this was what he told me
sorry those white stuffs in the above photos are not oil tanks, they should be low rise buildings. Photo is too small and I am too old !
