Imperial Airways – further information
HF: Islay Jamieson added the following comment on 9th July 2024 attached to our article, Imperial Airways – including first scheduled flight into Hong Kong 1936
”Just reading this…researching my father’s career…did you ever come across Maurice Curtis my father who was the local manager for Imperial Airways in Hong Kong…my mother flew out to Hong Kong on a flying boat with a 2 year old and a six month old! Jardine Matheson was often mentioned and he knew loads of people there!”

The Pacific Northwest Oriental Lines Inc, will be running steamers into our harbour from Seattle next month. This is a new service which includes freight and passenger accommodation. There are six steamers operating of the American west coast port travelling via Japan, Shanghai, Hongkong and the Philippines. The s.s Coldbrook, first arrival, comes into port on July 8. Thoresen and Co. Ltd will provide all particulars as to service and charges.
And so – more business for Hongkong!

Thursday, 5.15 p.m. Captain Joe Davies brought his plane into Kai Tak from Bangkok.
One lone passenger Mr. J Linnemann from Bangkok arrived with 571 kilos of mid-week mail.
Friday morning 7 and 7.30, Captain A.B.Dykes and Captain Joe Davies, respectively, went off to Bangkok with the weekend mail.
Mr M.H.Curtis, the local ”Big Boss” of Imperial Airways went south on an inspection tour. He is going to have an efficient service hitting 100 per cent or know the reason why. Ten days and he should be returning to his desk here.
Another traveller heading for London, but in a leisurely fashion, with several stop-overs, was Mr E.C.Carter.
Captain L.J.M.White, with his new First Officer Raeburn, should be arriving in the repaired Delia from Bangkok within a few days.
