York Lo has sent this 1954 newspaper article about Winsome Plastic Works.
Cecilia Young, daughter of co-founders Mr & Mrs Young Sze Kuen, has translated it. She has also kindly sent photographs from her family archives. Many thanks to IDJ for upgrading the latter.
“Winsome Plastics Works was first established and managed by Mrs YOUNG Sze Kuen (a Po Leung Kuk Director at present) and her husband Mr YOUNG Sze Kuen in 1949. Its original location was at 93 Hennessy Road, Wanchai.
Because of market needs, with an increase of various product items, the factory was moved to Tai Hong Street, Shaukiwan in 1951. This was purpose built to house a factory with advanced machinery, capable of producing top of the line products.
For ease of management, the factory was departmentalized into:
- Business Department
- Accounting Department
- Production Department: A) plastic fabrication B) plastic injection moulding C) synthetic leather D) moulding E) packaging
- Quality Control Department
Plastic fabrication products include: photo and mirror frames, signs and signboards, lamp shades and other innovative items
Plastic moulding products include: toys, stationeries, costume jewelleries and household items
Synthetic leather products include: purses, diary covers, stationery files.
There are over a hundred male and female workers. The day to day management is overseen by Mr LAM Yu Ting, respected by workers as a very good and fair supervisor.”
