Godowns in Hong Kong – Images
HF: Our recent article Godown – meaning and origin of the term, linked below, had me tracking down photographs of godowns in Hong Kong, which I show below. If anyone comes across the many I have probably missed please send them in and I will add them to the collection.
The most recent image and info is of Dah Keung Godown, 155 Hoi Bun Road, 4-6 Hwo Ming Street, Kwun Tong, added on 25th November 2022.
Dah Keung Godown HF: The following information comes from the recently published book Hong Kong Modern Architecture of the 1950s-1970s written by Walter Koditek, who kindly sent me a copy of the book, and published by Adom publishers.
“The architect Horace H.L. Ho designed the 12-storey utilitarian warehouse block in 1964 for Dah Keung Enterprises Co. Ltd. (registered in 1960). The first two floors were completed in 1965 on the 1,350 square metre plot, with the remaining floors added in 1969, thus bringing the total floor space to 16,720 square metres approximately.”
