HF: In the article Ship breaking in Hong Kong – Junk Bay 將軍澳 – late 1970s IDJ mentions Argos which was a contract labour supplier to China Light & Power for a long period and ran their own fleet of double-decker buses to get their people to the Castle Peak Power Station site when it was under construction.
From the company website: The UDL Group was founded in the late 1940s by the late Mr Leung Man Kwong, UDL initially specialized in salvage, harbour engineering and shipbuilding works, and in the 1960s had expanded into marine and civil engineering. By the late 1980s, under the management of Mr Leung Yat Tung, UDL began a process of strategic restructuring which successfully placed itself in a strong position to undertake various projects in different engineering aspects. To cope with the rapid expansion of market demand in the early 1990s, UDL went public in 1991 as UDL Holdings Limited. From the SCMP 27 Oct 1998: UDL Argos Engineering & Heavy Industries has been given three weeks’ grace to devise a scheme to pay off creditors. The company is the subject of a winding-up petition and was granted a three-week adjournment at the Court of First Instance yesterday. UDL Argos laid off 520 workers in November 1996 as a result of completing 50 per cent of construction work for China Light and Power (CLP). The company was the contractor for CLP’s Black Point Power Station near Tuen Mun. (2)
