In 2019, property giants Henderson Land and Swire Properties teamed up and acquired 20 units in the 56-year-old Tor Po Mansion (多寶大廈) in Quarry Bay for a sum of approximately HK$182 million, giving them the right to bid for the compulsory sale of the remaining space in the building just north of Swire’s Taikoo Place on King’s Road.
The building was developed in the early 1960s by Mercantile Land Investment (which was incorporated in 1960 and dissolved in 1999) and flats were starting at HK$7560 each at the time, compare with over HK$6 million each for the prices paid by Swire and Henderson in 2019. Mercantile Land operated out of Room 1226 in the Central Building in Central based on the listing in the 1961 ad above. Chung Shek-chuen operated Pui Shing Construction (培誠建業, incorporated in 1960, dissolved in 2003) out of the same address in the same address and could be related to Mercantile Land. Any additional information on Mercantile Land is much appreciated.
