54 Nam Wah, Hong Kong ginger company – information needed
Paul Bloomfield has sent this image of a Nam Wah preserved ginger jar.
HF: He asked if we had any further information about the company. The answer is a little shown in our already posted article, Nam Wah preserved ginger manufacturer – Sham Shui Po, linked below. I have included some of the information and an early advert for the company here.
If you are able to provide further information and/or images about Nam Wah I would be delighted to hear from you.
According to HK company records the Nam Wah Preserved Ginger Company Ltd was incorporated on 27th October 1954 as a private company and is apparently still operating.
However this 1928 company advert appears to show it with a factory in Sham Shui Po and office in Central at that time.
Further information kindly sent by Paul who adds:
York Lo left this comment in 6/21: The general manager of Nam Wah was Robert Der (謝伯昌), who was the chairman of the pro-Taipei Kowloon Chamber of Commerce and grandfather of Matthias Der, the current Anglican bishop of Hong Kong.
