Agência Comercial “Progresso” Ltd – supplementary information

“In 1949, on the eve of the Korean war, Ho incorporated a firm in Hong Kong to oversee his various import and export trades, Agencia Comercial Progresso (ACP). In August 1959, the US Commerce Department banned Ho and ACP from dealing in American exports, saying he illegally shipped chemicals from the US to the mainland via a broker in West Germany, in violation of a trade embargo. Ho is still a director of ACP.”

At least two other businesses seem to be connected to Agencia Comercial “Progresso”. There are listings mentioning the companies as connected (and likewise banned from US exports) under the “table of denial and probation orders” from “The Code of Federal Regulations of the United States of America, Title 15 — Commerce and Foreign Trade (Revised as of January 1, 1963)”, page 304:

“Name and address: Chung Han-Ch’i, 443/444 Alexandra House, P.O. Box 2713, Hong Kong.
Effective date: 8-4-59
Expiration dates: Duration________
Export priveliges affected: General and validated licenses, all commodities, any destination, also exports to Canada. (Party related to Agencia Comercial “Progresso” (ACP) and/or Stanley Ho, which see.

And on page 312:

Agencia Comercial “Progresso” is listed in the Hong Kong companies register as founded on January 26, 1949 and still active. It is also listed in the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce register from 1952 under the General Import/Export category, with its address at 443 Alexandra House. It was elected to membership of the Chamber in 1947.
